As Australia’s population continues to age, even more so out west in the expanse of Western Australia (WA), ensuring the well-being and financial security of its senior citizens becomes increasingly important. To address the needs of seniors in WA, the Seniors Card programme has been revamped and expanded to provide enhanced healthcare benefits and support for seniors.
In this blog post, we will delve into the mechanics of the WA Seniors Card programme, its qualifications, and the wide array of benefits it offers to seniors living in WA.
Casting a Net Wide
The WA government is already aiming to have the entire state’s elderly population be covered with the Seniors Card programme. Don Punch, Seniors and Ageing Minister, said the current series of information roadshows are being planned to visit all regional WA communities by the end of the year.
At present, the government has already held 32 events in regional areas, with almost 800 people attending. The roadshows cover education sessions on the Card, sharing information on the latest programme updates. Also, a chance for seniors to replace worn or damaged WA Seniors Cards, or be issued a new card as replacement in case of loss.
The roadshow expansion came off the heels of the WA government releasing over $28m for the Cost-of-Living Rebate, wherein $104 will be furnished to single seniors and $156 for elderly couples.
The WA Seniors Card
The WA Seniors Card is a government initiative aimed at recognising and supporting the state’s senior citizens. It is available to residents of Western Australia who are aged 61 years or older and are no longer working full-time. The programme provides access to a variety of benefits and discounts, with a particular focus on healthcare and lifestyle services.
To apply for the WA Seniors Card, eligible individuals need to complete an application form, which can be obtained through the official government website or local government offices. Once approved, seniors receive a personalised card that can be presented to participating businesses and service providers to avail the associated benefits.
While seniors in WA can receive a degree of benefits under the Card, they can possibly access more if they also hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card or Pensioner Concession Card.
